Peter Politis has recaptured the seat of mayor, ousting the incumbent Denis Clement who narrowly defeated Politis in the 2018 election.
These two have been political rivals since the 2014 election when Politis won by 101 votes and in 2018 Clement took the win by five votes.
This time the election was far from close. The unofficial count saw Politis receive 1,397 votes and Clement 639 in this election.
Council will be comprised almost entirely of new faces – with Rodney Hoogenhoud being the lone returnee.
Marck Recoskie and Sue Nelson both ran and lost in the 2018 election when there were 18 candidates running for councillor seats. There were just seven councillor candidates this time around, with Recoskie and Nelson being among the six elected.

AROUND THE DISTRICT
• In Iroquois Falls, Tory Delaurier’s campaign highlighting the achievements made during the last term and his positive view of the community’s future prospects resonated strongly with voters compared to the critical assessment of the previous council and a promise to bring change offered by his opponent, Roger Hardy.
Delaurier, the incumbent for the mayoral seat, was re-elected, winning handily by receiving more than double the number of votes earned by his opponent.
There were 13 candidates competing for six town councillor seats in Iroquois Falls. There were three returning candidates — Claude Tremblay, Richard Charlebois and Ben Lefebvre — and all three were re-elected.
