For the second time as Town Clerk, Alice Mercier administered the Declaration of Office and Oath of Allegiance to the new council as they were officially sworn in last Monday at the pavilion

The new Mayor, Peter Politis was sworn in first followed in alphabetical order by the councillors: France Bouvier, Daniel Brunet, Sylvie Charron-Lemieux, Rodney Hoogenhoud, Susan Nelson and Marck Recoskie.

Politis received his chain of office from the town clerk and then addressed the crowd that had gathered at the facility to witness the event.

He said “Well, here we go again. Full cycle. First I would like to congratulate every one of you on your election to represent our community for the next four years. As mayor and head of council, I couldn’t be more thrilled with the character and diverse skills and the balance of experience and fresh thinking this council offers. The council table is designed to be a cross section of our community. With diverse views and ideas that will be represented to our community lead to informed choices. I am really looking forward to debating community affairs with this group and finding common ground together. In this election the community made a very loud statement and set forth a clear mandate. The expectation is that the community takes a progressive forward thinking approach to its affairs that will set us on a path of prosperity and reaching our full potential. I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity we were presented and more honoured by the faith in us to do this. There are a number of opportunities before us that we will need to act quickly on in order to realize them. There are a number of threats before us that we will need to deal with as well. Our strength has always been that we have plenty of capable skilled leaders in our community. Our success will be measured on how effectively we, as a council, engage our community to provide us the tools we need to compete with much larger centres for our opportunities and growth.
